Environment
The Summer Camp classroom is air conditioned and extra spacious (3 X larger than required by licensing). It includes large meeting areas, a stage and mirror ball, ping pong and foosball tables, an art studio, and large open areas for engineering and construction.
Our facility has a well equipped gymnasium and students have access to 3 acres of open space in the adjacent Valley Court Park. The park houses basketball hoops, a tennis court, picnic tables, large open areas for soccer and kickball; and a climbing structure specifically built for school age children.
Curriculum
Our Summer Camp incorporates multiple field trips and onsite visitors, as well as daily outdoor activities. The daily schedule includes: Morning Meeting; Cognitive Capers (experiments, mazes, math, art, character builders); Reading, Writing, and Illustration; and Interest Exploration (student-guided deeper knowledge discovery).
The camp takes advantage of the many resources we have nearby, such as Michigan State University's botanical gardens, trails, animal barns and museums; Harris, Woldumar and Fenner Arboretum nature centers; and the Nottingham Nature Nook wildlife rehabilitation center.
Our program boasts a higher-than-average adult to child ratio (licensing requirements for school-age programming includes a 1 to 18 adult to child ratio.)
New this year, summer campers will travel to the Nokomis Learning Center and visit MSU's cyclotron.
Fitness and Fun
Fitness is a primary aspect of our Summer Camp programming. Children involved in our Summer Camp will have many opportunities to develop their physical skills. Teachers provide both structured and unstructured activities for the children each day, including races, games (softball, basketball, kickball, etc.), relays and running activities.
