On My Mind: Re-Union

The MSU students are back. I didn’t need a calendar to tell me that; it was obvious from the squeals outside the Delta Gamma house yesterday. I was on my way to get some lunch and happened to see a reunion of friends. One young woman screamed and threw her arms in the air and another young woman screamed in response. They fell into a tight embrace, hopping up and down in a dance of joy. There’s nothing like seeing a bestie after a summer apart.

September 8 is Kickoff Sunday, but maybe it should be called Reunion Sunday. We’ve been apart much of the summer — visiting family, chilling up north, working on projects, or just relaxing. Now the church year begins afresh: Sunday school is back in session, the choir is in the chancel, and Bible studies are meeting again. It is going to be an exciting year at The Peoples Church and I can’t wait to see you all and get started. I’ve missed you so much this summer. But I’ll try not to squeal when we are reunited.

See you in Church!

- Rev. Dr. Shawnthea Monroe
