NYAKA AIDS ORPHANS PROJECT, UGANDA

Over two-million children have lost one or both parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda. Orphans face many challenges and often have no way to meet their basic needs for food, shelter, health care and education. Twesigye “Jackson” Kaguri, an Okemos resident, visited his home village after both his sister and brother died of HIV/AIDS leaving four children in his care. From that experience, the Nyaka AIDS Orphan Project was created to build strong community and family structures in rural Uganda. The Peoples Church has hosted events and sold crafts to support this important ministry.

A group of eleven volunteers travelled to Uganda in October of 2015. They worked with children in all three schools supported by the foundation, the Nyaka and Kutamba Primary Schools and the recently opened Secondary school.
